Community Access and Programs
Alcohol and Drug Education
Staff from Tarzana Treatment Centers provides comprehensive education on alcohol
and drugs to adolescents, adults and families in treatment and in the community
at large with emphasis on:
- Understanding the addictive process
- Utilizing new found strategies
- Improving functioning
- Facilitating sobriety

Staff frequently conduct presentations at public schools, civic group meetings,
healthcare facilities, universities and professional conferences.
Tobacco Control/Community Access Program
The Tobacco Control/Community Access Program offers a variety of services designed
to increase awareness of tobacco issues and reduce or stop the use of tobacco and
nicotine. Services include:
- Smoking cessation classes
- Support groups
- Small group sessions
- Individual counseling
- Assessment of nicotine addiction
- Customized programs
HIV/AIDS Education
Tarzana Treatment Centers' HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention Project provides educational
workshops and training for all clients and staff. A mobile HIV Antibody Testing
team and a harm-reduction program augment HIV Education and Prevention Services.
Family Education
Weekly family education groups are held to educate and involve family members in
treatment. Families learn about:
· Addiction
· Impact of addiction on the family
· Taking care of themselves
· Their role in the recovery process
Parenting Classes
This class is offered to parents who wish to improve their parenting skills while
also satisfying the legal requirement for those mandated to complete a parenting
course. The class consists of 10 weekly 90-minute sessions where participants learn
about:
· Child development
· Specific techniques for effective parenting
Each session allows time for discussion of the materials presented and specific
parenting issues facing participants.
